Hello AT forum denizens,
I *was* running a Phenom II 720 BE on a Gigabyte MA770-UD3 mobo up until a few weeks ago. A friend is staying with me and he managed to trip on some cords leading to my computer. After that things started acting funny.
First, no video out and no USB power after boot (mouse and keyboard stay dark). Lights and fans come on fine. Drives spin up. I think the mobo has failed and RMA it to Gigabyte. They get it back to me in about 2 weeks as "repaired."
Upon reassembly, the POST process is very slow. My 4GB of OCZ DDR2-1066 RAM is detected as DDR-800 (although it correctly detects 2 or 4 GB depending on what I have installed). Worst of all, my WD Caviar Black 640GB drive (SATA) is not detected at all. If I connect my storage HD and DVD drive, the POST process is fast and normal, but of course I have no OS to boot to. Juggling RAM as single- or dual-channel always detects as DDR-800. If at any point I connect my WD boot drive the POST is very slow and never detects the drive at all (all IDE channels are empty). I can get into the BIOS, load defaults etc. with no change.
Is my mobo still defective, my WD drive failed, possibly my PSU (500W Rosewill) failed? I'm trying to get another computer to hook my WD drive up to and test, but no luck yet.
How would I best test my WD Caviar drive if I get it into another machine as a slave?
Thanks.
