Senator Joe Biden, a democrat from Delaware, has a new plan for combating kiddie porn on the internet: implement a nationwide P2P monitoring system.

It?s ?pretty easy to pick out the person engaged in either transmitting or downloading violent scenes of rape, molestation,? said Biden, because all you have to do is look at the filenames. He cites a piece of software, known as ?Operation Fairplay,? which currently sees use around the world and at regional Internet Crimes Against Children task forces in the U.S.

WOW! @ the bold portion. He must think that people are stupid enough to label their files as "kiddie pr0n" or "rape victim 1". The stupidity of this is outrageous and screams of privacy invasion. I personally think all kiddie pr0n and rapists should be held accountable for their actions, but I also think this is not the way to go about it. Does Biden think the public is this stupid? Whats your take?

I think this is indicative of how much the world of technology has passed by the men and women responsible for making laws in this country. Most of our senators cannot do anything beyond their computers beyond check email and surf for porn, you shouldn't be surprised that they propose asinine legislation like this plan.

I object on both civil liberties and cost grounds. Just what we need is for the government to waste tens of billions of dollars playing net nanny. And then to waste tens of billions of dollars more trying to crack encryption.
