Let's mine Titan

Looks like Saturn's moon, Titan, is a good source of liquid and frozen natural gas (methane). We need to have Exxon or Shell start sending out robots to mine the planet. Anyone remember the game Descent?

edit: damn spelling nazis... 😛

Man that game made me nauseous. Then I got Virtual I-O glasses with the headtracking feature and played it. And then I actually threw up.

I have them somewhere in my parents' house in Dallas. Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles, so if you want to buy them from me, you'd need to wait until the next time I go home to visit the folks, which probably won't be until summer. That being said, if I can find them, do you really want them? The resolution on the screens in the goggles are like 320 x 200 or something ridiculously low. Also, and I'm not joking here, there is an ever-so-slight lag between when your head moves and when the screen reflects that change. It could be a problem with the gyroscope, or maybe it was just my 486DX2/66 crapping out on me. The end result is that you will probably end up praying to the porcelain god. If you're still interested, though, PM me.

the taxes on it would be astronomical. THat's quite an effort to get it back into our tanks.

I'm sure those companies could set it up so they wouldn't go out of business. Think about the possibilities. We could mine that moon dry, not worry about ruining our environment, and isn't burning natural gas cleaner than crude derived gasoline? The methane aliens living on that moon might disagree, but hey, we'll just invade them or something... 😛
