I'm not sure if you can consider this drinking, but I had a hard apple cider last night and the rest of the 6 pack will probably take me a month to finish.

Finish it off in one night - make brats, the only good use for hard cider.

No alcohol for me. I grew up watching it's effects on people and don't want that to happen to me. Having one or two here or there is not bad, but I see lots of people who can't go a week without drinking and it does impact their lives and their families. It's a personal decision I made. Yes, I may not have as many friends and may not have as much 'fun', but I'm extremely happy with my life so I don't mind. I don't judge people who do drink; it's your decision (unless you have a family, in which case you may be inadvertently affecting them).

I have a hard-and-fast limit of 2 drinks + 1 additional drink every hour and a half. Any more than this and I get mopey.

I am so bored tonight. Roommate is gone, didn't hit up any parties, neighbors fell asleep instead of coming over. I might play the college card and take one shot by myself to try this new Italian alcohol I got from Europe, but it just won't feel as awesome.

What's everyone's excuse tonight?

Drinking is like playing with a live wire. Except you can hurt/kill other people too. Think it's fun all you want, but there are many other ways to have fun without lowering your inhibitions & purposely causing misjudgment. This, along with all the death and destruction I've seen from this "fun activity" is why I think drinking is bullshit.

you sound like a prude. people can and do drink responsibly. alcohol can help you relax, and shake off the day. sounds like you could use a drink or two.

Why do I need a drink or two? I'm doing perfectly fine. If I want to relax, I don't need something to alter my mental status - if you do, whatever. The point is not everybody can control their actions and it's certainly not a necessity in our lives much like many things you'd compare my justification to. Yes, people out there ruined it for everybody else... seen that happen before?

It sounds like your only defense is that it makes you feel great - there's nothing wrong with feeling good, but it costs way too many lives every damned day - not just the dead, but it impacts their entire families too, even if they're not dead (which could be worse) - and all you can say is... "well that guy just couldn't control himself". I wonder if alcohol had anything to do with that.

rh71 makes some valid points. The fact is many, many people drink to excess on a regular basis and while intoxicated drive cars, use firearms, etc.
As I pointed out when I posted this thread there are numerous threads about how great and wonderful drinking is, and I just posted a thread that points out that NOT drinking has great advantages.

Its pretty funny how many people seem to feel attacked when someone brings up the subject of NOT drinking.
Hmmmm.???

It's been around longer than any civilization, and that's not going to change any time soon, might as well learn to suck it up ;)

Just out of curiousity.

I think most alcohol beverages taste like crap [I've never been able to understand how cold beer on a hot day can be a good thing to have - I'd rather down a bottle of berry flavored propel].

I really see no reason or desire to drink alcoholic beverages - but that's just me. Give me a chocolate shake, strawberry lemonade, or a flavored water [propel] and I'm happy.

I do enjoy watching drunk people make asshats of themselves though... :)

Not drinking?!

LOL

And good for those who 'can have a great time' without drinking, so can everyone else. Drinking is what makes a party a party however. No question about that.

it's funny that everyone always knows these drunk drivers (and now firearms carriers) yet statistically one is more likely to know someone in a violent crime yet doesn't usually. Sort of odd.

I believe those that want to take away alcohol are simply damaged goods. It may suck that your father raped you, but that was probably less to do with the alcohol than their mindset.

Rh71 does not make valid points. He makes extremist points that mark a substance like it was freshly squeezed from the anti-Christ's tit. People who make shit choices when drink, make shit choices because they're retarded to begin with. There are a LOT MORE people who drink on responsible level and never do anything that tragically impacts someones life. Drinking is a choice just like anything else that can be handled responsible. You can choose to or choose not to - don't act like you're on a higher moral path because you chose not to.

How many lives does it cost? How many more are cost by another 'crime'?

I am willing to bet if one was to group you with your peers many would find a ton of fault with you despite your non-drinking status.

What other freedoms do you feel should be taken away from the average person?

Sad part is you brag about your X5 BMW but probably have no real need for that SUV. SUV's are far more dangerous than just a few drinks around the house.

... because you can't hurt/kill people with a live wire ?

You can drink responsibly, and only have one, all it takes is for you to make the decision. Sometimes your inhibitions are stupid, and you should open your mind to new things.

This, along with all the death and destruction I've seen from this "fun activity" is why I think drinking is bullshit.

Alcohol can be used for good and bad things, much like many things. It depends on the person.

You can choose to or choose not to, it your decision. As long as you don't force it on others (that works both ways) we are cool.
