The interview

Bubba "3dfx -- Nothing Nivida does will change what we are doing with the 6000. What is clear is that they missed their product cycle. This is the third regurgitation of GeForce! It was our belief that a product cycle meant introducing a new product. How many times Nvidia expect the consumer to buy the same product?"
LOL What a joke.. :)

"What is clear is that we ( 3Dfx )missed our product cycle 3 times. This is the third regurgitation of VSA-100!"
Bubba what you really need to do is:
1. Make up your own PR and quit " regurgitating " your superiors memo's
2. Admit that 3DFx screwed up by putting the companies needs BEFORE the consumer.
I should probably explain that. " We at 3DFx do not feel that 32 bit color is needed in the gaming comunity, 16 bit is just fine. AGP texturing? There will never be games out there that will need that much memory. We at 3DFx know better than you! So bow down and worship us!!
Funny many did and still do.. DUH.
3. Admit that without the "recent" purchase of a company, 3DFx wouldn't have another product within the next year and a half again!! "Fear" anyone?
4. Find a way so that 3DFx's stock isn't removed from open trading since it's at 4 19/32 right now. <<< This is a distinct possibilty, drop another buck and you never know, chapter 7..
5. Find a way to remove Scott Seller's , he got you in this mess.
6. Shoot the idiots in RD for your company. They are pulling up lame and it's time to weed the lazy nit wits.
BTW
FSAA is Cool!! T-Buffer effects? What are you nuts? Why do I want to shoot some guy in Quake 3 that has a 100 mini me's following him? Looks like a Q3 train.. Woo Woo!!! LOL
OMG...
Bubba "Well, I can?t speak for all stock holders but I think once they see we have a great roadmap and are hitting product dates, they will see we are a great investment and begin buying up stock in large quantities." LOL
What roadmap? Hit which product dates? Are we sure this isn't a comedy sitcom script? He He The irony, the irony of it all!!!!

Bubba "We are on schedule for our next generation part. I can?t offer you more than that. There is certainly a cycle and we are on schedule. GF2 Ultra is Nvidia next generation product. They missed the product cycle with NV20."

Yes you guessed it correctly, 3Dfx's schedule is intact and on it's way. The "next" product stolen,,, er ripped,, hardwarezed? ( Hey if that term goes over I WANT CREDIT! :) From Gigapixel is on it's way.. Then 3DFx will go back to it's new fall schedule of adding new hardware every leap year :p

You know, in all seriousness, someone at Nvidia has to be doing some thinking. Whoever is working their marketing strategy is top notch. Why would I say this?
Look at it this way.
1.Last year they introduce the Geforce SDR's People grab them up.
It's Nvidia's answer to make sure they have the fastest card available.

2. Nvidia launch's the DDR line of boards. ( 3 weeks later ) The fear is that 3DFx is almost ready with the V5 5500 and the killer V5 6000. All of us idiots who purchased SDR boards now run out to buy DDR Geforce cards ( did I say that? ) Forcing us to sell our slower SDR boards to the 1st chump that say WOW a Geforce card!! This just doubled Nvidia's sales duh.

3. 3Dfx misses the fall rollout, not by a week, not by a month, not by a quarter, but by 6 months. Nvidia looks at this and simply says WHOA!

4. V5 5500 is released. Nvidia isn't impressed. They also realize that the V5 6000 has "issues". <<<< Neat term :p I think this is where Nvidia brainstorms their market strategy. They come up with the MX idea knowing that it CAN compete with the V5 5500 and undercut it in price. I think they gamble that 3DFx can't make good on the V5 6000 here and won.

5. Enter the GTS. Nvidia knows now that 3DFz has been stonewalling for whatever reasons. The GTS is an extension of the Geforce core using better technology and actually pretty easy to get to market, obviously there wasn't a very long waiting list for these cards, they were relatively easy to get.

6 3Dfz assimilates Gigapixel. Nvidia now knows that 3DFx has major problems with thier card. Brainstorm 2 ( it's like a bad movie eh? ) Nvidia looks at the situation and says, " Hey you know what? If we up the core a little bit and get some of that fast memory, we'll beat 3DFx to market with a faster card in one fell stroke!!" <<<< This guy got a raise.

I don't believe for one minute that Nvidia has missed a product roll out. It's simply waiting in the wings. They realize that they can put a faster solution to market now without having to retool thier fabs. THIS IS VERY SMART BUSINESS. We get faster cards, they undercut 3DFx yet again and still keep something up thier ever present LONG sleves.

Of course this is only my opinion and not to be confused with anyone else's delirious ramblings.
:p

nVidia's destop business model really doesn't compete directly with 3dfx. I doubt they want to be associated with them at all. They want to be ATI with good drivers :)

I agree on several points. They used DDR because they need to maintain the "speed crown". Benchmarks sell cards to retailers, features/cost+stable drivers sell cards to OEM. They killed everyone in features (until Radeon). Based on what actually happened with the competition, they almost coulda waited for the GTS to use DDR.

Just some opinions.
