I've read about a 100 post as to what mousepads don't work with the G5. I would like to ask G5 owners what mousepad works for them. Please no opinions as to what might work or what doesn't work. You can find those answers everywhere.

Please, G5 owners only! What mousepad are you using? Also, include the model number, texture, color and any other pertanent details.

I just bought a G5 and want to use it when it arrives.

Thanks,

d00d, any half decent mousemat will work.

Or any flat surface.

At work, i use one on a metal shelf that's not even smooth, & it works great :)

Quoted from Logitech's website:

Many gamers use a mouse pad to get the best performance from the mouse. However, most of the gaming mouse pads currently on the market are optimized and designed for optical mice.

The optimal tracking surface for Logitech?s gaming-grade laser is different from that of optical mice.

Because of this, Logitech anticipates that mouse pad companies will begin designing pads for the new laser mice that are coming onto the market. Until that time, we recommend that gamers use the G5 and G7 on light, semi-reflective surfaces that have an irregular pattern.

Gamers should avoid surfaces with matte or very high gloss finishes.

Also, from what I've read in reviews, metal surfaces should be avoided when using the cordless (G7) version as the metal may interfere with the signal mouse->receiver. No firsthand experience though, just from what I've read.

Quote from Razer confirming the same thing Logitech states:

On a related note, it is a known issue that lasers do not have as high a maximum tracking speed as optical mice on rough surfaces (and vice versa, optical mice do not work well on rough surfaces). Here there needs to be an adjustment of customer expectations, their existing optical mousepads may not be the most suitable for this new generation of miceIn future versions of the firmware we will be adding features like scroll wheel setting and scroll wheel acceleration
