Lets get some inactive members active

Crazee

Elite Member
Some of us have been putting together a team of people to try to contact inactive members in the hope of making them active members. So far the team is comprised of:

IJump
Micron
Migroo
JW Middleton
ReaganCRW
Me (Crazee)
RaySun2Be

According to Setiatwork, we have 1431 members who have been inactive over the last 7 days. If we can get even 10% of them to return to active status that would be 143 more people crunching. 🙂

What we need is a few more volunteers to help us accomplish this task. If you want to give a hand, please sign in below 🙂

Are you going to cross check with the other Team Anandtech projects to make sure they didn't move over to another project?

That could narrow the list down to those who are just inactive, and not active in other projects.

Good point Ray.. we should do that.

We will need the information as to where to find lists of other project's members - and what projects to check, I have lost track of how many projects there are.

What should our policy be in regards to a member who has joined another project? Lot of questions..

Anyway I'm still up for this.

Each volunteer will be assigned a group of names. The more volunteers the small each ones list will be. They can check the roles of ECCp, RC5, F@H, etc and see if the person is there. If they are active in another project then that is fine. As long as they are active with the TeAm that is what is important. 🙂

That is why we need more volunteers. If we can get enough people to help then the amount of time each individual has to spend on it will be greatly reduced.

I can probably put something up on my web site so we can track contacts and if they are doing other projects. That way we can see progress as we are contacting people......

Hey this project sounds familiar🙂 ,remember Smokeball & others? 😉

Crazee
Good luck guys ,me,Smokie & others did this about 1yr ago (just before the team size nearly doubled!) ,so I know you got your work cut out for you😉
Btw I would volunteer to do it again but atm ,& for some weeks I'll barely have time to check out the stats threads🙁

Inccidently if you want to see the original 'get 'em active' & 'volunteer wanted' threads PM me & I'll email them to ya ,its bound to cut off some names offf your list🙂

I am glad someone is doing something. But may I make one suggestion???

I am still doing some work with RC5. Why? Mainly because I have issues with seti and win2k. Folding didn't like my machine. And I have been doing RC5 since I started coming to this site. So I plan to stick with it until it's done with.. Now what I wanted to know is this...

Can we get members back into RC5? We have dropped from being the top daily producer to the 4th. And lately we have even been the 5th. And we have only a few days left until this project is over. I would like to see our team climb back up the ladder and become one of the largest producers of blocks again. And to hold off HZTeam from taking our spot in over all blocks. It would be almost impossible to get #1 back, but I would like to see us hold spot #2. Plus I miss our days of RC5 chat.

All projects are great. Don't get me wrong. I just would like to see our team do well in the final days of this project. Tiz all....
Just my personally opinion.

Wolfie

Oh, and one last thing... Our production has been cut in half since the Dave M. issue. Reasons that we all understand. But I just thought I would go out and throw an idea your way. And let's show the world that we will fight for Dave M. Even if it's the project that almost stole his freedom. I guess my opinions should almost stay to myself... Since I have different ways of looking at things... :/

Wolfie, from experience, I found that the version 2.x Folding client did have some problems with Win2K on a couple rigs, and consequently I was unable to run it on those machines. 🙁

The newer 3.x version is working fine though, so you may want to give that a try. 😉

BTW, I'm going to be attempting to get a local warehouse place to lease me a small space.. hopefully 20'x20' and allow me to run PCs in there as either a Linux or Beowulf cluster, running nothing but DC projects. Most likely the first project would be RC5, since most of the machines will be in the P100 to P200 range anyway. My hope is that they'll agree to let me do this so that I can eventually host 30 to 40 machines there! :Q Electricity to run them is the only major issue.. I'll let you know what happens.

Even if this one place doesn't agree - I'll be checking with others too. 😉

You can take me off your list of inactive people to contact. I just started cranking out WU's again on Thursday after being inactive for almost 7 months. I've got 5 systems crunching right now, and hope to add a few more over the next couple of days.

Wolfie,
I see no reason that some the RC5 team couldn't mount an effort to contact inactive members, weeding out those who are active in other projects.
That's why I requested that those active in other projects be dropped from the inactive list to contact for SETI, as I don't want to recruit anyone away from the other projects, just looking to see if some of those who aren't active in any project would consider running SETI again.

Those active in RC5 can certainly recruit using the Team Anandtech recruiting threads posted in other forums, post milestones and news, and generate excitement and exposure for the RC5 team. I would say recruitment outside of this forum would be your best bet.

😀

Welcome! back Vader2K! 😀

Another reasonable point to make is to maybe cross-reference the SETI inactive list with say the top 200 producers from some of our other projects like F@H, ECCp, UD, etc. If you find names of TA members higher up on those lists, it's probably a foregone conclusion that they've switched projects but are still working for TA - if that's the case, I say just leave 'em alone. If they're happy on another TA project, let's leave 'em happy. 😉

Vader2k
Good to see another oldie crunchin again ,welcome back to The search 😀
Nice little fleet your building up? ,what specs are they btw?

Wolfie
You propose some quite reasonable ideas ,however I believe Crazee created this thread with SETI in mind.
How about starting your own thread & project for getting some inactive RC5 members going again?🙂
(you can knock me off your list ,I have a very small RC5 account I ran on a few old Pentium systems ,I doubt I'll be running it again ,I'm a hardcore SETIer😉)

Inccidently what is your problem between SETI & Win2k? ,I run both without any problems........so far😉

And we have only a few days left until this project is over
Lol ,if I had a £ for each time I heard that I'd be rich😛 ,I thought there was about 6mths or so left to run? ,I could be wrong of course😉

If this thread was intended to be about inactive SETI members, perhaps that fact should be made evident in the thread title.

I agree with you all. I just had to type something since I haven't been that active in here this summer. I wish I was tho... Thanks to NETWORKMAN *GRIN* I will be tring to come here more offen again. It's just that I have been a little busy with work and haven't had much time. Time... something we all don't have much of.

Anywho...

Assimilator1
I am talking about the Outlook2k/seti problem that has been an issue for a while. Where outlook hangs. I liked seti a lot but I just couldn't deal with the delay...

NWM,
Revenge is going to be sweet. (You know what I am talking about. 🙂) And I agree about leaving people alone if they are happy. I don't want this to become a fight like it has before...
🙂

Crazee
I did not know this was a SETI only thread. I thought it ment the whole dc team. My bad...

/me sends NWM a large Lake Superior Lake Trout for the start of his revenge. 😛

Wolfie

No problem Wolfie 🙂

If you would like to start something for getting inactive RC5 members going I would be glad to assist.

Crazze,
I would. But I just don't have the time. I work anywheres from 10-14 hours a day. And the last thing I want to do is spend hours in front of the computer. 🙂 I know what you are thinking... How dare I say that. 🙂

Wolfie

lol 🙂

Yeah that is 1 problem that hasn't been fixed yet 🙁 ,there is a work around though ,using SETIHide you can get SETI to pause whilst Outlook2k is running

Guys - I've taken the liberty of changing my father's SETI client to crunch WU's for ME now, rather than for his user 'martinSP'. So he's inactive, but his PC isn't, if you see what I mean. So don't bother emailing him.

Thanks 🙂

You can cross this one off the list also:
1866) PeterN - Team Anandtech 5 wu's

It is my old 'sleeping' account. Am currently crunching wu's for The Federation.
