What are some of the must-have titles from early Hollywood? I'm on a classic movie kick ever since watching 'Sparticus'. The plot was engaging, the acting was top-notch, and it was even safe for the kids! Much better than all the crap coming out of Hollywood these days.

That said, I'm looking for some more recommendations. What are your favorite titles from the "Golden Age"?

To start with, here's my short list of classics that I've either seen/own or am looking to buy:

12 Angry Men
Africa Queen
Angel and the Badman
Ben Hur
Chisum
Cleopatria
Cool Hand Luke
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Donovan's Reef
Fort Apache
Her Alibi
High Noon
Journey to the Center of the Earch
Lawerance of Arabia
Little Man Tate
North to Alaska
Planet of the Apes (The original 6)
Poseidon Adventure (Original)
The Quiet Man
Rio Lobo
Road to Bali
Road to Rio
Rooster Cogburn
The Shootist
The Sound of Music
The Thin Man (Series)
The Time Machine (1960 ed.)
To Kill a Mockingbird
War of the Worlds (original)

Add your favorites and lets get a well-rounded Classics list going.. I'm sure others will be interested in this thread too!

The chase scene in Bullitt was awsome, but the rest of the movie just seemed to drag for me.

There was another one he was in that I can't think of the title... maybe you can help me.

Basically he's one of many US POW's during WWII trying to escape from a Nazi prison camp. I've only seen bits and pieces of it but I remember them digging a long tunnel and setting up a dolly on a rail system to move themselves down the tunnel and get out.

In another scene Steve McQueen is riding a stolen German army motorcycle and he ramps this razorwire fence up the side of a hill before he is re-captured. That's all I remember, but it looked like something I'd like!

Do you know the film I'm talking about??

Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) is a frenzied, hilarious, madcap black comedy from celebrated director Frank Capra.
