Hi all,
I have a 20GB hard disk lying around which has a bad sector. When I plug it into my system which has WinXP installed, it takes WinXP around 5 mins to load into the login screen and another 5-10 mins to load my desktop. When I check the Event Viewer, it has a couple of events registered stating that the HDD has a bad sector.
I've tried to use the Disk Management util built in to try to view the HDD. Unfortunately, it can't see it. Even Explorer can't see it. I'll be trying out Norton Utilities when I get hold of it. My question is there a way to switch off WinXP's "feature" where it will try to read the bad sector or is there another way (preferably in DOS mode) I can mark the bad sector and be done with it w/o even going into XP itself?
Any help is deeply appreciated.
TIA.
