Hey Guys,

They are literally tons of different car fragrances (solids, liquids, sprays etc.) and a variety of different smells.

Here are the questions....

1) What brand and type of fragrance works for you and lasts long?

2) What smell or smells do you like?

I been using this but it does not last long....

The question I have is: Why do you need to use a car fragrance? My car doesn't smell and if it does, I change whatever is causing the smell.

Found part of a sandwich under the passenger seat a week or so ago. One of my kids stuffed it there whether on purpose or not, and it was sticking to the floor. I removed it and cleaned the affected area, but the car smells still. I even aired it out all saturday. There has to be some sort of odor eliminator or something to kill the germs and also the farts that sink into the seat.

Dirt from your mats in the winter, moisture, and fabric are all going to give a car a "lived in" smell. You won't smell it because you're used to it, but people getting in your car will.

I've been into this scent lately. My wife thinks it smells like my cologne :)

I hate them all.

What kind of smells are you trying to mask? Might try the Ozium new car smell but use it in small doses.

I change the floor mats out for new ones every couple years and just keep the car clean. I find this goes a long way toward minimizing foul odors and pretty much eliminates the need for deodorizers.

Chicks dig 'em though :)

I've been looking for good scents. My new car came with a scent that I'm not terribly fond of. I can't place it, but I suspect it has something to do with toting around a dog quite often; the leather seats show evidence of this (and I'm preparing to treat them, once it's above freezing this weekend), as does the dog hair that found its way into every nook and cranny. Growing up, we never took a dog everywhere we went, so I've never experienced that smell.

I've thought of carpet shampoo treatment, that and cleaning & conditioning the leather might do the trick.

I'm currently using those little vent sticks by Yankee Candle, the Midsummers Night scent. Smells like cologne, and I don't think I want to keep it around long.

There was a "Refresh" brand gel canister that combined a New Car Scent with Summer Breeze or whatever. It smelled pretty good, but I don't know if I wanted that in my car.

I wanted to try that Black Ice scent in the trees, but the Autozone I stopped at only had a 6pack of that scent. No way was I gambling with a 6pack. I got a 4pack of that Midsummers Night and I don't think I'll want to use a second one. It smells good, but... I don't think I want my car smelling like that all the time.

Dollar General (if you have them) carries Black Ice and Steel (another good one) for $2/3 pack. They only last a 4-6 days but for $2 who cares :)

Stinkiest part of your car is probably the floor mats. You can tell because if you wash the car and hose them down, dirt will pour out of them forever.

I recommend rubber/all weather mats, then the funk doesn't stick around. I just got some OEM ones for my Fiesta on Ebay for $100 new and it really makes a difference both in smell and appearance.

In my parents' old Avalon, they once forgot a crate of mangos for a few summer days. This was back in 2001. That car still has a mild stench 13 years later. Luckily, no fruit flies got in the car to spawn fly swarm abominations.

Carpet shampoo and a enzyme cleaner work well enough. You could try rubbing baking soda but the shampoo/enzyme combo will work better.

LOL- reminds me of when I accidentally sat a half of a bologna sandwich down in the trunk of my old Mustang GT hatchback, and it slipped into one of the bags for my T-Tops.

I wasn't able to find the source of that nasty smell for 6 months :D

BUy a big bag of activated carbon. Put under each seat. It will destroy bad odors over time.

They work brilliantly. Best of all, no masking. Just fresh clean air after a while.

Chemical Guy's stripper sent car air freshener, it's seriously one the best smelling thing out there. Everybody who gets in my car comments on it, and I mean everyone.

My Shaldan

Comes in multiple scents

We have 2 Jeeps that two cans are kept active for 3-4 months on each can.
Completely covers any smells by the dogs or kids.

Valets compliment wife on the smell of the car.

She will usually hand out a spare can when that happens.

We get them for about $4 in bulk from Oriental stores

I started this journey 2 days ago.
I first purchased Black Ice

not really a fan. Smell like cheap cologne I wouldn't want to wear.

So today I purchsed the Pine Tree scented ones because I was not fond of the cotton candy smell (as much as I love cotton candy).

On a related note, I hung a Hello Kitty McD toy from the back of my car.
