I like that idea of immortalizing Moonbeam's gifts.. But how?

Maybe an eternal flame... or an ocean named after him... or maybe an orbiting rock .. yeah.. that's it we'll name that orbiting rock up there moonbeam... maybe just beam or moon or 'the moon'... that's it .. we should name it The Moon! A place where even the photon scurrys off upon reflection..

at its very core, "society" and market forces determine the job market, and what people get paid for the work they do (whether they are self-employed or not)

your never going to get paid more than your "worth"
if you work for a company that pays you more than your "worth", that company is going to go out of business.

globalization is inevitable, and jobs are going to migrate to countries where labor costs are least (like china).
why is it inevitable? because people vote with their dollars..if enough people refused to buy goods from China (which are generally cheap), and bought identical goods from U.S. suppliers (more expensive), the market would reward U.S. companies, over Chinese companies. But that's not happening.

now globalization and capitalism are Godless, soulless systems that do scare me somewhat, but what's the alternative.

employment and the ability/right to work is a very emotional and complex problem..
it causes me great personal anguish to think about all the wasted human potential around the world that is not able or allowed to be put to product use.
employers and companies have much less control over jobs than you apparently think..employers and companies have to exist in order to employ people, and they have to compete successfully with other companies to do so. that competition to survive ultimately determines job security in most cases.

Surely in a competitive system we would let the worthless die. Those who can't find productive work should die, no. Market forces should determine who should live. I mean if we valued life we would provide training for millions and millions of doctors with every level of skill. With thousands of bone setters to chose from we could get a cast for a buck. Sick, move next door to the doctor mother's house for cheep chicken soup. Buy and sell your house on the Internet for a hundred dollars a pop from the local area's library web site. If you watch a good hypnotist at work selling knives you will see that half way through his presentation the free samples he's going to pass out get cut in half, then halved again as the hypnotees crowd closer in. Value in our society is based on illusion and artificial scarcity. What people need are food water air and a place to live. Since Egyptian times we could have turned the world into the garden of eden were it not for the disease of self hate. The pie is shrinking and it's mine mine mine.

Gotta love heartsurgeon talking pro-globalization free compitition when he works in the most protectionist profession in america ruled by the AMA cartel. How many new medical schools have opened in the last 20 years? None I heard, while population continues at it's exponential rate. How's that class size? Same as in the 60's. Nurse Practictioners to remove a splinter? No can't have that. Chriopractor covered? No way. They even put up a stink about DO schools until very recently and fought against foreign doctors comming in to USA. A average in the hardest college courses still not good enough? Nope thousands of 3.5 and above get denied admission yearly. Blah hippocritters.

I know you're using the term worth loosly, but if anyone had a more artifical "worth" than MD's I don't know it because of thier protectionism. Things are not quite that simple but I do agree in general you're paid what you're worth in so far as capitalism dictates. Unless you're a trust fund baby or DuPont heir.
