Let the price wars begin!

AFter reading a couple of reviews, I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the 7900GTX.

Looks like almost a draw between 7900GTX and X1900XTX. Even at high res with AA the 7900GTX and X1900XTX seem neck and neck depending on the game. Even Anand's FEAR results showed the 7900GTX beating the X1900XTX. ATI has a slightly better feature set, but with nvidia's aggressive pricing, I think Nvidia may have a winner here.

On a side note-

Anand's review showed 7800GT SLI raping both 7900GTX and X1900XTX. I guess I wont be upgrading after all 🙁

EDIT: Also, did anyone else notice that 7900GTX SLI kicked the crap outta X1900XTX Crossfire? Even 7900GT SLI took a couple tests from X1900XTX Crossfire.

Where are you going with those questions? What do you want to find out? They seem a little rhetorical, no?

I don't care much for SLI. Never did. Find me a game the needs the power of two X1900XT's or 7900GT's to run on, and I'll find you an answer. Making one educated opinion on two closely matched cards is hard enough.

The X1900XTX > 7900GTX IMO. Similar in performance but the features of the X1900 give it the edge. As for SLI vs Crossfire, there's absolutely no doubt that Crossfire is extremely inefficient compared to SLI.

so speaking of price wars... when do the ATI price slashes take effect?

on ncix.com none of the x1900XTs have dropped in price yet!

that's $400 for an XTX after MIR

price mistake?

Must be.

Its going to be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

With ATI's performance lead almost completely negated, price is going to determine sales. With availability being a non-issue AFAIK, I cant wait to see prices keep going down.

Also, any word on how these things overclock?

I was a little disappointed with the 7900's. By that I don't mean that they aren't very good performers. They are neck and neck with ATI's best performance wise. I was just expecting a little more since the 7800GTX 512MB's were about the same. This was what I was predicting anyways but at the same time I was hoping to get blown away. Didn't happen. The 7900GTX is a top of the line performer and I can't say between it and the X1900XTX you can't really crown one the overall winner. I was just hoping for more. I was really hoping to be blown away and making the 7900GTX my next "must buy" computer part. Alas, this is not so.

EDIT: Fixed typo that made it seem like I was saying the 7900GTX's weren't good performers.
