Let me get this straight ... AIW 9600 comes with HL2, but AIW 9800 does NOT?

I searched for this topic but didn't find anything. Why would ATI exclude AIW 9800 buyers from their HL2 promotion?

Lol, I have no idea. Didn't make any sense to me either. I have had my 9800 AIW for awhile and I really was thinking I would see the coupon on it when I orderd it.

Probably because it was released well before the HL promo.

Maybe because 9800 has more life than 9600.
That way they could sell more 9600 and get rid of their inventory,especially now that the new core arrive.

The AIW 9600 is much newer than the AIW 9800. The other cards released around the same time (9600/9800XT) also had the HL2 coupon. The AIW 9600 also comes with 2 Remote Wonders (if the RW2 ever gets here anyway) while the AIW 9800 only gets 1.

Didn't notice the all-in-wonder.
Anyway ATI sell cores mostly, so this could be a marketing issue.9600 core is older than 9800core

ATI is the sole Manufacturer for AIW and FireGL Cards.

Also, IIRC, the 9600 core is newer than the 9800.

I knew that AIW was produced exclusively by ATI.
Didn't knew that 9600 core is newer than 9800!!

That makes sense then. Still, it would be nice if they extended the promotion to all Radeon 9600/9800 cards sold after such and such a date. Oh well
