Let me describe this and tell me if you can suggest a setting (DNS) related. . .

I'm having DNS issues. When I go to a website out of the ordinary - for instance www.billingsgazette.com - I will get a message in firefox or IE that the dns server is not available.

This happens super fast.

When I drop to the command prompt (in windows 2000) I type tracert billingsgazette.com - and then I get the ip address and can type the address and go to the site with no problems.

This is irksome to say the least.

I have called my ISP (Centurytel DSL) and they have given me alternate DNS servers which I changed, but still have some problems (although better).

I have tried public dns servers like 4.2.2.2 and the like.

It seems to me that Windows times out too soon. It seems as if it just 'waited' longer I might get a response.

How do I change this wait time?

Any other comments appreciated as well . . .
