Yes, and how much does it cost? Two HP orbs cost me under $40, and they're quieter and much prettier too;)

The problem is that the hedgehogs vary so much in quality there is almost no guaratee you'll get a good one.

I've seen several reviews of units purchased at stores, where the bottoms were very unsmooth/unpolished. Also, since the pins are SOLDERED onto the base, a handpicked "review" unit would easily outperform an alpha, since a stock one is on par with an alpha.

But that also means a "handpicked" hedgehog isn't going to be indicative of the average purchaseable hedgehog.

this is a very similiar case as to the Arcticooler that Kyle @ hardocp tested a while back. his had a nicely lapped/polished bottom, whereas the majority of shipping ones do not. As can be easily seen, a smoothly finished bottom of a heatsink is vital to cooling, hence why some purchased hedgehogs do perform rather unspectacularly.

Ill admit, the delta fan on the hedgehog is a loud one. According to my abit kt7 im pulling 26c idle, 35c load, but we all know that motherboard temp sensors always lie. But for comparison purpuses i was pullinf about 31c idle and 41c full on a fop32

i will not buy a expensive and loud heatsink just for a few degrees difference.

the noise is really annoying when the fan is getting louder.

I've got the Hedgehog/Delta38 setup on my 600E@840 and average 27c idle and 38c after running Q3A for an hour or more. With the computer under my desk, I hardly hear it, wouldn't trade it, (Unless a better one comes along;))

Hey Buddy, it's not fair to compare your Hedgehodge w/ the big fan against the Taisol w/ the small fan.

Wait until there is a review of this against the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

think a single Delta is loud, try the dual 60mm 33cfm fans found on my Swiftech MC1001 cooler...its loud..but with the help of some dynomat..its bearable..that and 0 degree idle temps, 16 degree under load temps rule :)

P3 800e@1123 mhz :D

I think anandtech had the first review of the hedgehog that was good.
Ive read about the heat transfer capabilities of aluminum compared to copper and such. Copper transfers heat better from metal surface to metal surface then aluminum does. Aluminum transfers better to air.
*shrug*
Im not a heat transfer professional or anything ;).
But Ive seen more bad reviews then good, which leads me to believe the majority.
just my shiny two pennies.

My alpha pep66u/delta combo is pretty loud...comparable to my celeron sandwich running 4 fans. But it does blow/suck lotsa air. I might turn it down to 7volts just to make it a lil more quiet. It's not all that loud.
