Well it was listed in their "google gadgets" area.

I doubt it was a google sanctioned project, in that it wasn't like "hey employee, go do this". Rather, it was probably one of those "must take 20% of your time to do something besides work" projects (exactly like how google maps started).

I can see it now...the military defense operators will have a computer with a Google page that says "Search for bad guys now" and "I'm feeling lucky"
