Let doctors use "instruments" to deliver baby?

When I was a kid, I always heard horror stories about doctors using forecepts to deliver babies - permanent damage to the baby, ruining his and the parents life. The other tool they use is vacuums - heard some horror stories about those too.

So my girl is twoish weeks from her due date. The doctors will let us tell them not to use the instruments, but they said most people let them use them - because often using them will make the baby come out easy, and will avoid the need for a c section, which has its own risks they say.

What say ATOT? Let the doctors use instruments if they cant get the baby out without them? Or go straight to the c section? thanks.

Same as everything in life; wing it, and use the data on hand when the time comes. Details make a difference, and I'd make the call when I'm aware of the details. If I don't know, I generally defer to the people with the training, and filter it through common sense to determine if the course of action is sane.

If you can afford the c section, go for it. My wife took the knife twice for our two kids. It was hassle free, no labor pain, I didbdi have to wait at the hospital.

C-section does have its own associated risks (including to mother) and is the most invasive option.

If your OB has a good reputation and track record I would trust their experience to make the call.

As far as "horror stories" go, in sue-happy America obviously the delivery team is trying to minimize risks... so I would trust their judgment.
