RUMOR: PS2 To drop to $100.00 at launch of XBOX 360

Since PS3 wont be available to compete with XBOX 360 its rumored sony will be dropping the price of the PS2 to $100.00

There is a second rumor floating around that a PS2 with H.263 decoding and a Blue Ray DVD will be launched but thats sounds like BS.

Now the third rumor. The PS2 will go open source several days before the launch day of the XBOX 360. You will be able to buy a developers kit for the PS2 for $50.00.

4th which to me is BS is Commercials for the PS3 to begin the week the X-box 360 launches but that would really aggrivate consumers I believe if they cant get one before X-mas.

Rumors so it could all be junk but Sony is definately planning something for the XBOX 360 launch.

DVD + NFSHP2, metalgear and GTA.... what else could you possibly want out of life....

Its funny but Sony is saying PS3 will last 10 years.

The PS2 dropping to 100.00 seemed legit. I figured they could make a PS2 for around that price by now.

You're calling BS on the timeframe for them opening up commercials, but then actually believe they're going to go open-source and release a developer's kit?

I didnt write the rumors I have an e-mail/spam from someone claiming this is going to happen. Im just debunking it through here. The only one that stands out is the $100.00 one.

There was even a 5th: PS2 owners can get a $50.00 off a PS3 by registering on Sony's website with their serial numbers on the day the XBOX 360 launches. They figure this will cause a surge in PS2 sales and possible PS3 sales.

$100 is plausible since the slim PS2 must be pretty cheap to make.

Adding blu-ray would cost too much and steal future PS3 sales.

Open-source makes no sense because Sony makes most of its money on game sales not hardware.

Commercials as a spoiler for xbox is plausible. Especially since MS is currently not going to ship HD-DVD with the first batch of xboxen (screw you early adopters!)

couple months with a friend. we didn't work very often on it. we sold ours already though, $2500
