cliffs:

-Bought Canon imageClass MF4270 (AIO laser).

-Assumed that since it was network ready, it meant I could also scan over the network.

-Could not have been more wrong.

-Only prints and faxes over network.

-About to eat up 15% restocking fee:(

Was my assumption atleast valid? I should have read reviews first.

I got an HP P1006, consumer level laser. If you don't need a hardware PCL laser, it's great. the cost per page is $0.04 in toner, so a bit high but the printer can be had easily sub $100 shipped if you shop around. The only thing I dont like about it is it is fugly grey.

As for scanning over the network, that is very iffy - some can, some cannot, some are a nightmare to set up some are fairly easy. My experience was from a few years back, so dont ask me about any current ones sold, I don't know. I will be looking into it myself come fall, though, when I get into trade school.

There are some print servers that will allow network scanning for some HP, Brother, and Lexmark AIO. I know Linksys has one. I would check around for compatibility before sending it back.

Can't you just scan to a shared directory? It's got to have a setting for the image folder somewhere...
