Lesser known bands you like ...

Post here name of bands and/or songs that are not very well known around, as well as a description of what type of music they play. Some that enjoy jazz wouldn't like to spend their time searching for a punkcore metal band.

I like these threads because it gives us an oportunity to discover new bands that are out of the radio mix, but has good quality music.

Here are my contributions ... both are just plain rock bands, with a clean sound.
Meriwether:
- MP3.com link ... for mp3 tracks.
Band's official site.

Garret:
These guys are friends from one of my best friend ... they are just a semi-pro band, playing at bars and clubs around town.
So Cold
Top

Just rename these files to .mp3 (you can even stream them AS IS through winamp ... just type add the url to the playlist). If anyone wants more info (or more songs), please PM me.

Kuk 🙂

Good gawd, I loved this ... exactly that I was looking for. Sidewinder is really cool. Thanks Valhalla1! 🙂

Caroline's spine seems to be a "lesser known" band even though they had the title song for the movie Varsity Blues (it was on the soundtrack but not in the movie... go figure)

Anyway, The Work Song is one you guys need to snag...

A band out of Spartanburg, SC called Dezeray's Hammer is incredibly good. There's not a CD released nationally, but you can probably find some of their stuff on KaZaA, Limewire, Morpheus, etc. A song called "I'll Never Walk Away" is my favorite of theirs and a very good song. They play rock music (not hard rock like Metallica, etc., but stuff more along the lines of Incubus). Very good stuff.

hmm.. lesser known bands eh?

Undying (Metalcore) nice hardcore band with very strong metal influences; sounds a lot like Zao

Danzig (umm... black classical metal?) From what I've heard (only a few songs) this music is dark classical music; very evil and foreboding sounding

Focal Point (metalcore) another metalcore band, with a more unique sound. very aggressive guitars and great vocals. Very angry

Tourniquet (metal) this is a Christian band... most songs sound like 80s metal but they have some nice acoustic songs and a touching love song entitled "When the Love is Right"

Marduk (black/death metal) these guys are insane. Do not listem to them if you are religious, easily offended, or have virgin ears.

Carrie Akre -- Gospel-tinged rock (CD: Home, songs "Hail Hail" "Limbo" )

Happy Rhodes -- Kate Bush influenced synth-?rock? (CD: Many Worlds Are Born Tonight, "Serenading Genius"; CD: Building the Colossus, "Down Down" www.auntiesocialmusic.com)

Grant Lee Buffalo -- folk-rock (CD: Might Joe Moon, "Mockingbirds" "Lady Godiva")
(lead singer Grant Lee Phillips was the singing voice of the irish guy on Witchblade, but the GLB albums are American folk not celtic.)

Danzig (umm... black classical metal?) From what I've heard (only a few songs) this music is dark classical music; very evil and foreboding sounding

Or as Sugar Ray sings (on Lemonade And Brownies) "Danzig Needs A Hug" 🙂

indeed kuk, Sidewinder is my favorite AGR tune...

found out about these guys after getting seriously into Dave Matthews Band, DMB and AGR both used to play in a little bar called Trax in Cville VA in the early 90's

Most of what I listen to isn't popular to the general public. Go to Relapse Records, Earache Records, Century Media, RoadRunner Records, Meal Blade Records. Thats what I like. You god-fearin' types will want to bring your cross. 😉

You like good old rock and roll then checkout

Five Horse Johnson(Toledo rock/blues)

Atomic Bitchwax(guitar player from Monster Magnet)

Preacher(kinda Lenard Skynard meets Black Sabbath and does instrumentals)

My favorite band is Superchunk. They've been around since the early 90s but have stayed on an independent label by choice and never really entered the mainstream. They used to be classified as punk, but the last couple albums are more just normal 'alternative' music. It's all great music though (they have about 8 albums out), sadly its all I ever really listen to anymore - that and Portastatic, which is the lead singer's solo group.

Something Corporate. Kind of a perfect melding of Ben Folds/Get Up Kids/ with some attitude from The Ataris.
Just found em a couple days ago, and they are already on the top of my list.

Therion. Its a (i think) swedish band. Progressive metal. Imagine an incredible mix of Metal, a chorus and an orchestra. They are amazing.

Watch out for A New Enemy. Their debut CD should be out next month, and I've only seen them once, so I can't give a very accurate description. They're sort of a more technical American Nightmare w/ clearer vocals and maybe (i'd need to hear it again to be sure) some hints of metal.
