Less than 1 mile from my home, there is a child fighting to survive

Less than one mile my from my home, where I sleep, where I awake, there is a very special place, the home of the bravest people on the planet.

They all have something in common. It is not their race, it is not their religion. It is certainly not their income. They are all children, and they all have cancer.

They didn't smoke, they didn't drink, they didn't live off of Big Mac's, they didn't live off cell phones nor LCD monitors. They didn't do anything wrong, they don't deserve their disease.

But there is an 8 year old girl that can look into her crying and desperate parents' eyes, and say, "it is ok."

Courage and happiness exist in a place where neither should be capable of existing, and yet they do.

You can see it in their eyes. You can almost feel their pain, as much as you can feel what is in their hearts. They lack fear in ways we cannot imagine.

Life is so very precious. The hospital spends 1.5 million dollars a day, and it is worth every penny. If you can help, and we all can, please do.

Nice. I actually work for the company that prints the letters for St. Judes.

One of the few letters we print that I'm proud of.

This is so heartbreaking to me... It is the most important cause (to me personally) and I support them as much as i can.
My cousin was a volunteer there a few summers ago as she is becoming a dr. and she said everyday, she left the hospital in tears beacuse she saw so many brave children there, with positive outlooks eventhough their future was rather grim.

It amazes me that the kids who go through these types of terminal illness situations ALL seem to have the most positive attitudes. I've always found that really cool.

This right here is why I support ChildsPlay. www.childsplaycharity.org It is run by the same guys that make the PennyArcade comics, and last year they raised over 1 million dollars during the Christmas season, just through essentially word of mouth and one big charity dinner.

Nice post. I may be biased like since I am from Memphis as well, but to me, this is the best hospital in the US. What they do for these kids is unbelievable. Another way to doante is buying a ticket for the St. Jude Dream Home giveaway. They have them in several cities. Here it cost $100 for a ticket and you get a shot at winning a nice $250-300k house donated by a local builder. My wife and I always buy a ticket.

I remember seeing this girl during one of the telethons. She was always so happy.

They are on my annual giving list. Call me a sucker, but I cannot stand to see children suffer and a place that can make these particular children happier and more hopeful is a cause worth giving to.

I used to work in a children's hospital doing computer/video stuff on a volunteer basis.... it was one of the hardest jobs I've ever had to do in my entire life. I still get really sad when I think about some of the things I saw while there. Great post OP.

I don't like the idea that money = charity.

Isn't there a different way I can contribute to this program? Like volunteer locally?

Probably so. I'm sure you could give them a call and ask them how else you could help.
