The Westland police officer who used a electronic weapon on a man as he held a baby outside his home on the night of Aug. 17 has been suspended for 30 days without pay for what the police chief called "a questionable decision."

Chief Jeff Jedrusik announced the suspension in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. Police were not identifying the officer involved.

The baby, a two-month-old boy, was not hurt, according to police.

The incident, captured on video by a witness, has been seen thousands of times on social media sites; It made national headlines and prompted social media criticism of the department.

TBH I hadn't heard about this until today so not so sure how national headline it was...

Here is the original story which would indicate this guy is a total piece of shit who deserved to be tased, however, probably shouldn't have been tased at that exact moment...

Officers had been dispatched to the neighborhood, south of Palmer and west of Venoy, on a report that a man and a woman had assaulted another woman and vandalized her car, police said. Another caller around the same time, Jedrusik said, said the man was walking down the street threatening people.

The man who ended up getting arrested took the baby from a bystander part-way through an argument with police, after being threatened with arrest. Police and at least one witness can be heard urging the man to calm down and police tell him to relinquish the baby.

I'm ok with tasing someone in a questionable situation. No dies, cops protect themselves, and you don't end up with huge million dollar settlements.

I actually watched the video. The suspect was argumentative but not in any way threatening. Even without the baby, I'd call it bad judgment on the cop's part.

Also notice how the cop is shining his flashlight at the camera to impede recording of the situation.... I'm on the tased guy's side as the kid is his and he's not doing anything except becoming upset with a skewed line of questioning.

except in this instance, the baby could have been injured and I believe he has a valid case against the PD for this.
