And if its a cop you do that to you'll go to jail or be shot, or maybe both.

Personally if you're there the best thing to do would be to just put the dog in the house and talk to the policeman but you go solving every problem with your gun, I'm sure it will all work out fine for you.
I actually agree with you. It's better to let the dust settle, and cast your vote from the rooftops later on.

Our dog is our family member. Our back yard is fenced. I am a law abiding tax paying pillar of my community.

If ANYONE came into my fenced back yard and pointed their gun at my dog I would assume they are a thug trying to perform a home invasion and would respond as such.

Let's see how that's different from the OP:

1) LEO didn't enter in through the backyard.
2) Resident had no right to be on property.
3) LEO was there to serve eviction to resident.
