Lent co-worker computer, she refuses to give it back!

I lent a friend my computer to edit some video work on. I asked for it back last week and now she refuses. She said she had it for a year so it's hers. I lent it to her for a year because she was slow and didn't finish her projects on time and kept on getting new projects. I was being nice but in no way did I GIVE it to her. I need it back and I own it, what are my legal options?

should be easy enough... There is no way that one year of possession = owning.

edit: Oh is this a parody? :)

either way, make sure she pays !!!!

EDIT: parody?

how much is the computer worth now?

Will it be worth the trouble to take her to people's court?

make sure you let us know before it airs.

I thought for sure this had to be a parody... seriously, someone has something that is yours, you want it back, they don't give it back, it's stealing. WTF is the uncertainty about?

I'd say the fair market value is around $1,200. I paid $2,800 for the thing though. argh!

Figure out what the thing is worth in current day value, then just tell her she has to make good on the amount "owed" Then just set up dates where she comes over and performs "special favors" for you and eventually call it even :D

Ohh and dont forget :camera:

Well, if it's not a parody:

posession =/= ownership. If worse comes to worse get a taped confession telling how she thinks it's hers b/c she's had it for a year, this establishes that ownership is yours and she knows that.

she's NOT a friend.. that was a typo... I hate having to go to small claims court. I don't have the time to deal with this. Looks like I have to!

It boggles my mind how people can be like this.

How about talk to her boss? Don't know if that would be appropriate or not. Was the loaning of the computer on company time, to do company projects?

your word against hers...do you have any documentation stating the property is yours? did you get any documentation she had to return it? if you dont well...its gunna be hard to win a case against her cause if u gave it to her and its been a year without asking for it back...i'd say it sounds like u got suckered by a pretty face

its yours, she stole it. give her one more chance to return it in GOOD WORKING CONDITION and if she doesnt file a police report for stolen goods.

end of story.

Grab her car keys and tell her that since you'd "had them for a minute", they must belong to you, and therefore, you now own her car. Then run her down with it, to ensure she doesn't pollute the gene pool.

I agree get her an option to return it then call the cops. Show them your sales receipt and any other documentation you have on the said unit. They will sort it out.
