I know you guys all work in different fields in tech, so here goes:
I currently work at a law firm and we have to use a Java-based Internet Explorer only application for tracking and updating the foreclosure process for our clients. It is called LenStar Web. On at least three PC's (mine included) when you close the LenStar IE window, the window disappears, but leaves the IEXPLORE.EXE task running in the background. I can tell when the task is stuck running because if you try to launch anything else (Office apps, IE, Firefox, whatever) the system just hangs until you End Process on IEXPLORE.EXE in task manager.
Is anyone else out there using LenStar and having this issue? All of our PC's are the same, HP SFF's with P4 3.0C's and 512MB RAM running WinXP SP1 and IE 6 w/all updates and the latest Sun Java (1.5.0_02-b09). Some of them have this problem, some don't. Even the ones with this problem do it randomly throughout the day.
I have a pretty good tech background, but I haven't dealt much with Java or Web-based apps to properly diagnose what's going on. My impression is that somehow Java is keeping IE from shutting down properly, but I don't know how to figure out where/when/why. Thanks for any help!
EDIT: Yes, I did contact LenStar's tech support, but they have not responded despite a month's worth of phone calls and e-mails. They remind me very much of the mortgage banks' 'Customer Help Lines' that do the same thing.
