Amazon hasn't been the primary vendor for this item so I couldn't use the GC's I've been saving up, the lens shows up today on the website with Amazon as one of the vendors, and I got another $50 in Amazon GC's in the mail today (from Amazon CC points)

Should ship on the 6th.

Total for this Order: $649.88

No taxes, no shipping costs, woot

It's a great all purpose lens. I actually favor it for landscape shots if you can believe it. The huge range makes composition a breeze. I think it's main weakness is actually with people shots, but hey there is no perfect lens.

I bought that lens about two months ago from my local camera shop. Two things surprised me immediately, (1) it was in stock and (2) it was cheaper than anywhere else I could find it. You got a great price on a truly wonderful lens. It certainly has its drawbacks (slooow), but for a walkaround all-purpose lens, it really can't be beat.

I hope it ships out. I remember last year I tried to get it through Amazon and they kept putting off the ship date every 2 weeks.. and I pretty much gave up on getting the lens. 8 months later, I go to a local camera shop when they have a no tax sale and I end up walking out with their last one. Fantastic lens for its versatilty, but I still can't wait to pick up a 70-200VR.

Well crap, they have the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor in stock now too, I just ordered one of those too.

Are there any 8 gig CF card deals?

How much did you end up paying for yours?

That's an awesome price.

I figure if it's too big or the lens creep is an issue I can sell it for what I have in it easily.

I'd kill for a 70-200

Yep, the 70-200VR 2.8. I rented it for a race one weekend and simply fell in love with it.

There is quite a bit of lens creep on the 18-200, but I'm never shooting with it in a way where it becomes an issue.

That's a great lens. I finally took the plunge about a year ago, one of the best purchases I ever made. Fast and sharp, the only real drawback is its size (which goes hand in hand with its speed, of course). You will NOT blend into the crowd with that on your camera.

I also just bought one of these, taking advantage of Amazon finally getting it in stock. Used my Amex Rewards points and got it for "free". Woot! I haven't used it much yet, but it seems like the ideal point-and-shoot lens. I'm planning to take it to the State Fair in a couple of weeks. Much better than lugging around the 70-200 all day in 95 degree heat and throngs of people.

Should be delivered tomorrow, was a little worried that it'd take freaking months, and I just got a shipping notice on the 50mm lens today.
