Since i had the idea for a little droid a while ago, i decided to build one.

I have done preliminary research on what to use and have completed a list :
TLE5205-2 as motor drivers.
An ADXL acceleration sensor to detect movement and head tilt. Will extend to 2 sensors maybe.
1 ARM SAM7S256 (but will probably turn into an SAM3S4B or another Cortex M3).
various analog feedback signals for comparison with the angle/ acceleration sensor. Various counter inputs to compare amount of rotations of wheels (for now, future version will have legs).

At the moment i am busy building and testing an ultra sonic range device to add to depth comparison checks.

I am looking forward for possible focus modules to use with camera modules. I know telephones have these unit's.

I am looking around the web and have found this one :

UTAF™ (Ultra-Thin Autofocus) Actuators

http://www.newscaletech.com/phone_camera.html

I think it maybe be what i am looking for. Does anybody else know where to buy modules similar as these ones ?

I am thinking of looking for camera replacement parts. Then i would have the camera and focus unit in one module. If i can acquire the datasheets , i would be in business.

The end idea is to connect 2 of these unit's to 2 high powered ARM chips with a large external dual port memory for data transfer in between.
These 2 chips would then each do it's own task in processing visual data. And share relevant data. Another high powered ARM would actually be responsible for decision making and planning depending on the data.
A fourth ARM (mentioned above) would for now do all movement and sensory data from simple inputs.
