As the owner of a Y500, which is not exactly the same obviously, I can tell you that cooling is not much of a priority of Lenovo.

But they are marketing those line of computers as gaming laptops.

Don't gaming laptops need proper cooling?

Have a y580. Rarely see the CPU go over 80. Games generally around 75. Prime + Furmark around 85. No throttling. y500 had issues because of SLI. y50 may have issues because of its thinness.

the y500's have a single cooling fan, if i'm not mistaken. the y40/50 have dual vents from what I can see, which would indicate dual fans. This should help significantly with the cooling on the thinner design.

I have a y410p and was just playing BF4 on it with medium settings. After about 10 minutes it didn't feel all that hot to me. Just warm in some places.

EDIT: The y410p has very similar design to y500.
