I have a X200 (7458) with a Supervisor Password set and the Security Chip set to Inactive.

If I was to pull the CMOS battery backup, would this clear the password? Or would it lock me out?

I'm hoping to avoid having to do this.

The Computer Help Forum is over there....

However, the answer is yes. Pull the main battery, unplug it, pull the CMOS battery, then hold down the power button for a minute to get rid of anything that's left. Let sit for 5 minutes, then put it back together.

Warning though - write down what the hardware settings in the bios are before you do this. It will reset to default.

If the TPM security is off the battery should work otherwise you will need to contact the manufacturer to get it unlocked. I bought an HP latptop with TPM security on board and while cleaning it out from a small spill I noticed that they have covered the TPM module connections with epoxy resin. Not even a soldering iron will help when it is done like that and more manufacturers are switching to using the epoxy resin over the TPM areas.

Thanks, although I did think this was technical enough for this forum. Because if pulling the battery does not work, I'm going to have to dump the contents of the 24RF08 chip. :\
