Lenovo Thinkpad - Intel i7 Quad core series without Nvidia GPU

I am planning to buy a Thinkpad laptop preferably with a Quad core processor. I will be using Linux on this machine. It seems that Linux had dicey support for Nvidia and so it is off my list. Will it be possible to get a Thinkpad with a combination something like Quad-core processor and Intel Graphics 4000, rather than Quad-core processor and Nvidia graphics?

Yes. I know their W-530's offer quad core with Intel Graphics. Pricey though.

If you mean both installed at the same time, I don't know of a Lenovo T series Thinkpad configured that way. If you mean either or in customization, then yes.

not, not all, i just did a toshiba qosmio x875 with intel 4000h & nvidia gtx670m. both driver are install but i have no idea which one the laptop is using to display on the lcd.

My T510 has only nvidia graphics, but another guy on my team got one about a year later, and it comes with both. Intel for 2D and nVidia for 3D. I can't say that I notice a difference, aside from the fact that his has a better screen (a good bit brighter.) I believe Lenovo will configure these things almost however you want if you give them a call.

Not all.. and I'd bet the linux support for those is a pain in the rear.

That's a real interesting article. I had always heard on the 'net, that Linux support was better with NV than with ATI. But my friend, who runs Linux Mint, and has a 3450 PCI-E card, wanted to upgrade to an NV GT610 card. He installed the Linux drivers (several different ones), and couldn't get the audio over HDMI output to work properly. He had to put the older ATI card back in.

Of course, in Windows, everything worked peachy.

There is a fan noise problem with the Thinkpad right now and Lenovo don't seem to have a solution for the problem. The fan is always on and spins at at minimum speed of 3400rpm causing a constant high pitch noise. You might wait and see..

I only notice the noise on my Thinkpad when I am at home and it is dead quiet. You can adjust fan speed with the Lenovo software. It is a lot quieter than our home Lenovo which spins up the fan to full speed quite often (it is either dead silent or full tilt).

Which model Thinkpad are you referring to?

I have theT430, there is not adjustment for fan speed on my.
How are you adjusting yours?

I use the Thinkpad power manager software.
