Just downloaded and installed Lenovo BIOS 2.13 date 4-30-2007 for my recently acquired T60.

It is a neat flash system directly from within Windows. Nice not to have to mess with an external boot device.

Since I am leaving for Europe tomorrow, it was not without some trepidation that I said "yes" after a lot of warnings. :)

But it went very smoothly and everything works.

OMG!!!

I just updated the BIOS in my new Toshiba, and about had a heart attack!

First of all, I don't like doing BIOS updates - flashing PROMs makes me nervous as hell!!!

Second, this thing doesn't have a floppy, so I had to make a bootable CD, and I didn't have an image file - had to get one off the web.

Third, I used a new burner proggy (new to me) - CDBurner XP.

Fourth, I used a 6 year-old rewritable GQ (Great Quality) CDRW from Fry's - hardly the most dependable disc in the world.

After getting all this stuff together, I burned an ISO from Toshiba, and did a reboot from the CD.

Dude, I didn't know it was just gonna take off when it rebooted. I figured it would give me a list of options, like chickening out, or at least thinking about it before I pulled the trigger.

Anyway, away it went, erasing, writing, beeping, erasing, writing, beeping, yada, yada... then everything went black!!!

I thought, "Well, there goes my new lappy!"

Fortunately, when I powered back up, the BIOS was fully updated to Version 1.40

LoL!

All's well that ends well, I guess... :)

HP released a few updated BIOS images for my DV6000T this summer, and they were all winflash too. They went very smoothly and the last one actually fixed an issue I was having so it was well worth the time and fear for me.

Winflash ftw.

I prefer not to do BIOS updates from Windows ever. I don't trust windows with my day to day activity then why should I trust it to not brick my machine?
I just download the BIOS ISO image, burn it onto a CD and do checks on it to make sure it all went well, boot from CD, flash and it's all good. It's a much safer approach if you ask me.

I prefer to boot from a floppy, save the old BIOS, and have a chance to back out of the whole process, if I get cold feet...

Believe me, I wouldn't have flashed this lappy if the 'change history' didn't reflect some important updates!

LoL! This thing is working too good! I'm bored... :D

Maybe I'll look around for an external floppy... Any tips or suggestions?
