I see there are 14" and 15" screens and 1024x as well as 1400x resolutions. What is the best type of screen for someone who will be doing typing and note taking?

Definitely the SXGA+ screen. The 14" is okay, but not exceptionally bright or impressive. The 15" is unbelievably awesome, known as a FlexView screen, it is more than bright enough, has great color reproduction, and perfect viewing angles. However the 15" is a fair amount "bulkier" in that it feels less thin & light than the 14", so if you can I'd try to feel the difference between the two models.

I was also interested in the 14" T60 with the 1400x1050 display...then I found a review showing the difference between the 14" screen and a 15" flexview display. Yikes

Ugh... now I am confused... can anyone give me more advice? Mobility is important to me... I was really planning on a 14 incher.

The flexview screen seems pretty high end. I'm fine using the good old 14.1" xga screen on my laptop.

I have a t42 with 14 inch 1400x1050. I love the format. I'm not sure about the quality one way or another; but the size is great.
