Lenovo T60 question..

Earlier today my GF was burning some dvd's on her T60. We left the house while she let one burn, and when she got back her computer was on sleep. She pressed the power button, and it beeped twice with a black screen that says "Fan error" and then shuts down. I tried booting up to get into bios, but when I hit the Blue "Access IBM" button or whatever it is, I get the same fan error. What would cause this to just happen like that? Any advice appreciated.

The cooling fan for the case exhausts out the left rear corner area. It is a very gentle fan, not much noise. If something were to block that vent, it could overheat.

The only thing i can think of that would cause the error you received would be if the fan were to completely quit or fail to turn on.

Let it cool completely and try again. Put it in the fridge for a while. The fan may need to be replaced. If it is still under warranty, that should be no problem.

NO

Disconnect the AC adapter and battery and let the laptop cool down for 10 minutes before trying again. What's rational is that the fan failed, I would suggest when you turn the T60 on...to put a napkin next to the exhaust and see if the thing moves indicating the fan is still working....if that is the case the fan might be working but not fast enough.....I suggest you do a BIOS reset either ways to default before trying anything else.

And if nothing happens after that...I suggest you call Lenovo and seek help from them....chances are the laptop is still under warranty and 24-72 hours later you will have a new one in your hands if your girlfriend's Mobo took a sht and it's not fixable.
