Lenovo T-61 Laptop - wireless radio

Have a Lenovo (IBM) T-61 laptop that I cannot turn the radio button on to allow for wireless networking. The slide button on the front of the laptop is in the proper position but the Fn + F5 button which opens the menu displays a wireless radio status that is off. Clicking the 'On' position does nothing (??)
