Lenovo R vs T series

Are there any major differences between the two? Im looking for a decent laptop to replace my long in the tooth Dell and Lenovo is what Im going to get, but cant decide vs the two different lines of these laptops.
I dont really need super duper video, so Im leaning towards an integrated vs discrete graphics card, but do want some sort of video out to hook it up to the TV once in a while for pictures and stuff.
Everything else seems to be a wash, you can get the same procs, memory, HDD, etc on both. Whats, if any, are the big differences between the two for a PC built up to around $1000?
Their website stinks for details like this :/

I think they are roughly the same on the 14.1" models; and slightly different for the 15.4" models. What size were you looking at?

The Lenovo T series is higher on the food chain than the R series.

The T series is slightly lighter by about a pound, comes with a full internal rollcage (IIRC from reading laptopreview.com forums the 14" R series only has a half rollcage and the 15" R has the full rollcage...but don't quote me on that one), and can be upgraded to higher specs. If you're after a mobile powerhouse, then a T61 or T61P is the way to go...if you just want something for everyday use and don't edit videos or play games often, then an R series will be fine.

No. The 14" has the full rollcage; the 15" doesn't have one.

The R61, overall, is pretty much equal in the 14" model- slightly thicker, slightly heavier, can use a different format for the optical drive bay, but overall essentially the same. The 15" model, however, is nowhere close to the same build and you should go for the T series instead.

Ah, my bad...I knew one of the R models didn't have a full rollcage, but wasn't sure which one anymore...

Here's a stupid question. Does anyone who has been looking into Thinkpads know how often Lenovo has sales like the one that they are currently running (25% off). I'm in the market for a new machine, but I don't think I can currently justify pulling the trigger on a new T61p by the time the sale ends (today lol). I haven't really been in the laptop market for quite some time (most recent purchase was a G4 powerbook about 3.5 years ago). I've always loved Thinkpads and I probably wouldn't buy anything else (except another apple). Just wondering if anyone has any info on this matter. Thanks.

Those sales will probably last until early summer, when Lenovo releases their new models (X200, W series, etc). Prices on these new Montevino equipped laptops will probably rise somewhat compared to current ones.
