Lenovo laptop problem...

the problem with this lenovo y500 is the screen seems intermittent, changes color, display get fuzzy etc,when when being opened and closed. Just wondering what the problem might be...
 
Cable. I have an old Lenovo that does this. I just live with it, as the laptop has had a hard life from the previous owner, and I don't really care, nor do I use it much. If you feel like taking it apart, it is a fixable issue though.

is it something the average joe can do? My thought the cable is bad but then these cables go into a little clip on type connector and these can give trouble. THX
