This gateway which is on sale at target is a better deal

Price is $299 (yes it is $50 dollars more but you get a lot for those $50 dollars.)

http://www.target.com/p/acer-gatewa...00gb-hard-drive-4gb-memory-black/-/A-14113051

15.6" LED Display
Intel Dual Core Pentium B950 2.1GHz Processor, Cache 2MB, 64-bit
(This processor is a sandy bridge pentium which means it is an i3 without hyperthreading and it has the intel hd 2000 graphics)
4GB DDR3 Memory, MAX RAM 8GB DDR3
500GB Hard Drive
HDMI
3 USB 2.0 Ports
VGA
Ethernet, RJ-45
Maximum Battery Run Time 4.5 hours

To get you an idea of speed here is a comparison between the two processors on the anandtech cpu bench
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/328?vs=407
Now the processors compared are a 2.2 ghz intel sandy bridge pentium (it is a 35w desktop chip but it should perform similarly to a 2.1 ghz 35w laptop chip of the same generation and technology) vs the e-350 (which is at 1.6 ghz instead of 1.65 ghz).

The passmark scores for the cpus are as follows
734 cpu marks AMD E-450
1936 cpu marks Intel Pentium B950

-------------------------------------------------

Bestbuy also has a Dell with an i3 for $350 currently

Sometimes you just don't have an extra $50. Great for a student on a real tight budget. :)

If you're a student writing papers and maybe taking notes in class then CPU speed is hardly a real issue

Playing games in class, that's another story...

BUT... While the CPU may be faster the Intel graphics suck ass...

The reason to go with a fusion AMD APU is because the GPU is tied into the CPU hence (AMD Radeon™ HD 6320 graphics) is a lot faster than intel so, while you might get a boost in CPU performance with a sand bridge chip the graphics will be VGA style.

You'd be a fool to try to play any modern games with intel graphics.

You do know the Intel HD 2000 is faster than the Radeon HD 6320, right? The HD 2000 scores ~2700 points in 3DMark06 and the HD 6320 scores ~2500 points. Games show that performance difference, too: in Deus Ex Human Revolution at low settings the HD 2000 gets 25 FPS and the HD 6320 gets 22 FPS.

Nice going.

The deal looks very good for the price, but if you have the money to spare I'd look into the Gateway with the dual-core Pentium. The low clock speed and low IPC really affect Zacate when it comes even to normal usage.

Tell me 5 recent games that you are capable with playing with the hd6320/hd7340 (aka the gpu of the e series processors) but are not capable of playing with intel hd graphics (it is called intel hd graphics for it has the same shaders of the hd graphics 2000 but the pentium models only go up to 1100mhz instead of 1350mhz).

The graphics in the e series suck for they are only 80 shaders and are limited to 600 mhz. If you were talking an a6, a8, or a10 graphics you may have a point but even the lowly a6 with its radeon 6520 is about 3 times faster than the 6320.

Neither of these computers are gaming computers. If you are getting 10 to 25 frames per second in modern games on low settings at 1366x768 you aren't actually playing the game.
