The Lenovo g555 is on sale at Fry's for $300.
I'm trying to find reviews but it seems to be too new for any comprehensive reviews.

I'm looking for a cheap laptop mostly for around the house, watching movies on trip, and some gaming but nothing too taxing, think Bejeweled, flash games, that kind of things...
 
The G Series by Lenovo consts of several models, the G555 being second from top. Supposedly it features a AMD Turion II M520 CPU; 15.6-in screen; ATI Radeon HD4200 graphics; 3 GB RAM; and a 320/5400 HDD. The sale price at Lenovo is $599.

Looks like a good value if it is equipped as above - I would call it a loss leader. It would seem to suit your stated use.
