Help me out guys.

I bought a Lenovo 3000 K100 desktop for $800 from Office Depot
The specs on the machine are:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (supports 1066Mhz FSB)
Intel G33 chipset
3 GB DDR2 RAM (I have another 1gb stick ready)
Windows Vista Home Premium
500 GB SATA
Dual layer DVD +/- RW
Gigabit Ethernet
Intel GMA X3100 onboard graphics card
TV tuner w/ Remote
Anti bacterial Keyboard (I dunno what that means...maybe they sprayed it with Lysol or something)
Mouse

I might have left some stuff out, but u get the picture.

So, help me out in my decision.

All help is appreciated,
Thanks in advance,

Arnav
P.S. - I can all the criticism for my indecision also (lol)

Looks like a very decent value for the money. What exactly is the reason for your question?

I always thought that once money changed hands, a deal was a deal. As far as being able to beat the Lenovo machine for the same amount of money and quality, you would have to have some inside access to parts, etc., because you lose economy of scale.

Yes, it is possible, but not probable in the case at hand. For one thing, Vista Home Premium is going to cost you about $100+. That leaves you $700 to build an equal system. Just start pricing the parts needed.

A 500 GB SATA HDD will run about $100. That leaves $600. A good case with power supply will be another $125. That leaves $475. The Quad core 2 duo CPU will be about $400. You still need a graphics card and a motherboard, and a DVD burner/reader.

The keyboard probably has the AgION antibacterial surface, which is a compound that is also used on hospital surfaces. The AgION surface has randomly-placed crystals that contain silver ions which distrupt bacterial cell growth. To buty one will be about $90.

You have a good value - stick with it. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. :)

What you have looks better than this:

Deal

Thanks a lot corkyg
for putting things into perspective.
I really appreciate all the help.

I will definitely keep the PC.
I dont want to seem annoying neither am I complaining, but I dont like Vista so much. Is there any way u could point me to somewhere where I could get good clear help on how to dual boot XP from the same hard drive. I know how to partition and install XP on it, but dont know how to change the boot process for Vista once everything is done.

Again thanks for all ur help.

Fixing up installed Vista for dual booting with XP can be done. If it were mine, I would get a second HDD and clone the main drive and have a duplicate in my hip pocket. :)

But here is a step-by-step procedure well illustrated. Maybe someone else has a better one.
