What model? How long was your factory warranty? If warranty's still valid and it's a Thinkpad, contact IBM support - Lenovo support is useless, yeah.
Replacing hinges generally involves the following (assuming a Thinkpad):
1) Remove palmrest/keyboard/keyboard bezel; disconnect any cables running from the lid assembly to the base; unscrew the two screws holding the hinges and lid assembly to the base;
2) Pry apart the lid assembly (separate the outer cover from the display bezel)
3) Unscrew the hinges from the LCD panel
4) Replace hinges
5) Reverse steps 1-3
I've done it several times. I just order the hinges off ebay using the HMM that Lenovo provides for each of their laptops. That HMM contains detailed disassembly instructions btw. I'd say step 2 is trickiest - you don't wanna end up breaking the display bezel.
Pretty easy if you've taken apart laptops before though.
Assuming it's out of warranty and you can get the replacement part, most Lenovo laptops have Hardware Maintenance Manuals online. Just google "Lenovo 'Model Name' HMM."
