Wow ... it's been 12 years already? I remember Johnyy Carson retiring, and everybody bitching that the tonight show would tank without him.

Congratulations to Conan, but I wonder how much his style of comedy will deter the mainstream audience. Conan gets away with some risque' material since he's on so late. Curious to see how much he gets censored. No more masturbating bear or Preparation H Raymond?

and who's gonna replace Conan? Triumph?

anyways:
Reports at the time were that fellow talk-show host and Leno pal David Letterman was upset about not having been given the job. A year later, Letterman moved from NBC, where he had worked for 11 years, to CBS where his "Late Show with David Letterman" competes with Leno's "Tonight Show."

anyone who was around that time know why Letterman didn't get the job?

Leno (and Joan Rivers) used to fill in for Carson a lot. Carson's audience (much older than Letterman's audience in terms of demographics) was familiar with Leno. And I think NBC was happy where Letterman was at. It just made things easier for NBC to make that transition. Just MHO, though.

meh. they're both pretty worthless.

How dare you degrade Conan liek that - I vote for automatic ban! :|

:p

I used to like Conan... but years of him doing the exact same set every night got pretty boring.
