I saw on one site this morning that some higher-up from Sony said that shortages "couldn't be avoided" and threw out the possiblity of only 700,000 units per territory. That seems really low.

I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit: Here it is, an interview with Gamespot. Sony is saying 2 million at launch, 2 million before the end of 2006, so 4 million total.

Considering all the bad hype/rumors and the high price. I don't expect to run into any shortages/store camps when buying my ps3. 🙂

They announced a pink PS2 and pink PSP, and a price cut for the PS2 in europe.

No PS3 news that I was aware of.
