Legit Leather Chair Recommendation?

Anyone know of a legit leather office chair?

What I currently have has fallen to crap, likely from it being fake-leather and just simply made to fall apart.

I'm searching all over Costco and such for a replacement office chair - but every single one is full of shit because it's that "bonded leather" stuff.

I'm willing to pay a decent penny of $200-400+ but for the life of me... none of them are actual leather?

Legit $400....Allen Edmonds start at $250. Maybe you should take up hide tanning and upholstery.

In the mean time, start with a legit hat.

Multi-tail hats! His guy made his own, one tail for each ear. It only took 200,000 years of homo sapien existence for this to occur to anyone.

Most "fine furniture" type places have a small selection of office chairs.
Sometimes these will be actual real leather, not that fake bonded leather crap that turns into a sticky mess.
Can be costly, but, I think your budget should should still have some good options

That said, seems like even "fine furniture" stores seem to have a lot of "made in china" garbagecrapjunk.

It gets harder and harder to find what would have been considered "midrange" in like the 80s and 90s ....

You have like ... oceans of garbage, or extremely expensive, and then not much in between :(

Couch wise, I can build a strong foundation compared to the cardboard crap out there. And it isn't overly expensive to pay an upholster. Fortunately, my Boss is in agreement, next time she wants a redo.

Dislike leather office chairs for that Alabama swamp ass byproduct - Mesh is the only way to go.

$400 for an office chair is just starting to get into decent territory for cloth; forget about leather.

I almost went with a Stressless office chair (I have their Mayfair recliner and I freaking love it), but instead I decided that it's dumb to go with something you need to maintain for an office chair, and I bought a Haworth Fern which I'm still waiting to ship.

For $400, there's nothing good unless you buy used, but check out Steelcase, Herman Miller, or Haworth if you need a good office chair.

mesh is nice for cooling and airflow (it lets the farts through)

but i hated the rough edges of the seat when i had a herman miller aeron

i wonder if the newer models are better

I bought a used aeron in 2018. Its still my home office chair. the hard plastic around the front of the mesh does put some pressure on the bottom of the legs, but its rounded enough that theres no real "edges."
If i sit on it for like 5 hours working on an emergency without getting up or moving at all, then i do sometimes have knee pain, but, i try to get up and walk around at least once every couple of hours.

I wish i could get an office chair as comfortable as my drivers seat in my car, nice leather seat with a very very nice "balls cooler" built in (ventilated seat cooler)

I have some pos "ergonomic" office chair from office depot or something like that I got 14 years ago. Mesh back, fake pleather everything else that is falling off. I can sit here for days without being uncomfortable. May it last a thousand years.

Like has already been mentioned but unfortunately in that $200-400 price range bonded leather is the best you're going to get. Unless you are will to increase your budget considerably you might as well forget about a real leather chair. If $400 is the max you might want to look at mesh style chairs.

Who said you actually have to put it in an RV?

What would make leather "illegitimate" ?? :confused_old:

Bull mates with a horse maybe? :D

The alternative would be to grab something used... LOTS of high-end leather desk chairs get purchased then barely touched.

Bonded leather I see in shit as cheap as $80 - $200 range. I would think approaching $400 would start to get me out of that territory but I guess not =/

I'm willing to pay more - $600-800 at all in the range?

Also willing to buy used - but I honestly have zero clue where to look because I doubt I'm going to find nice stuff on Craigslist or anything.

See if there's used furniture sales/consignment shops in your area. We have some that cater to the higher end of the market, and they might get something like that in.

It depends on where you live for Craigslist ... if its a densely populated area, in particular one where there are lots of well-off people you can find all sorts of good stuff provided you have patience.

I've had the best luck by visiting estate-sales which I find listed on CL for furniture. But then I live in Connecticut so no shortage of wealthy folks selling old but nice stuff.

(and often leaving surprisingly valuable stuff @ the curb including antiques/working electronics in Southern Fairfield County)

All I know is office chairs ain't cheap. The last one I bought was back in November and it was bonded leather. Here's the Amazon link so you can check it out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082TGF9T6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

As far as buying used goes that's going to depend a lot on the area you're in. Here in Peoria the used office furniture market isn't the strongest but if you live in a larger metro area it might be better. If you're dead set on a genuine leather chair I'd suggest skipping Craigslist or Facebook market place. Not to say you can't find a good deal on those sites but they are geared more toward non commercial items.

Anyway, I'm not sure were you're located but I guess just try searching google for used office furniture in your area. If the cheese you send me has a return address I'll search for you to and see what I can find.

Im going to claim the "I have been sick with a staph infection" defence and have not been in my normal headspace. Sarcasm meter apparantly was powered down,

or, as they like to say "whoosh"

That said, I still like the particle board analogy :)

Bonded leather can at times legally be called genuine leather, real leather, vero cuoio, etc. This is because, scientifically speaking, it is real leather; however, the quality of the material is not even close to the real thing as we understand it. Bonded leather is partially leather; however, by law it only has to be around twenty percent leather.
