This is so rediculous. These privacy advocates are going over the line. Why should the government tell me which email service to use?

I for one want Gmail. It sounds like an amazing service/system that I, and millions of people, would get a lot of use out of. I've got nothing to hide...so what's the big deal?

BOTTOM LINE IS: IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE PRIVACY POLICY, DON'T USE IT. Google is not forcing anyone to sign up.

I just think these legislators are absolutely power crazy, like most politicians.

State Sen. Liz Figueroa, a Democrat from the Bay Area city of Fremont, said Thursday that it should be illegal for a company to scan the text of its customers' e-mail correspondence and display relevant advertising--even if customers explicitly agree to the practice in exchange for a gigabyte of storage.

Shhhhhh...this is negative about a democrat...let it slip inconspicuously off the board...careful now...don't draw any undue attention.

Phew! That was a close one!

There are idiots in both parties. I have to believe that even the most partisan people can see that.

Exactly. You've got nothing to hide, because you are a good American. GMAIL should be allowed to eavesdrop, it will help us pick up some more liberal anti-American heathens. We are an open society and all businesses should be able to glean what they want from us. Who was the last person you had sex with, and how was your orgasm?

Is that sarcasm Zephyr? Apparently you didn't read the CAPS in my post.

I was looking for some productive discussion, not some zealous exagerations...I don't think Gmail is aiming to pick out "liberal anti-American heathens" as you call them. Nor do I think they care how your orgasms are. Sure they may advertise a DVD player to you when it see "Last Samurai DVD" in your email body, but I imagine that sex toy pop-ups are off limits in their business plan.

Why should all businesses be able to glean info from our emails? That's crazy, nobody thinks that or is trying to do that.

Get real. Use your head :).

When they went after communists, I didn't say anything because I wasn't a communist...

Those privacy groups are looking out for YOU. I suppose it would be ok if our gov't decided to look through all your mail and read all your letters. No one is forcing you to use USPS. No one is forcing your to use email. Our gov't should be able to look through it all, right?
Yes, I know it is google that is doing it and not our gov't, but I am showing you how your argument doesn't hold water. Besides, what do those privacy advocates have to gain from blocking this? You claim that they are power hungry, but what power are they grabbing? Sounds more like they are just trying to protect you and I from a possible slippery slope.

I wasn't trying to make a logical argument to "hold water" that they are power hungry. That was merely an opinion. I don't like ANY politicians.

I didn't say privacy advocacy groups are a bad thing. I assume they have good intentions. But you've got to realize they are a group with a personal agenda. They feel like they should decide what is a violation and what is not. I don't need them to tell the government to tell me what is a violation of my own privacy. I'm educated enough to decide that on my own.

Other groups want to take out "under God" from everything. How are they protecting me? Before you know it we'll be banning head scarfs, like France, because some group (not the general public) decided for me that I don't want to see them. How does that make sense?

I know how this works from experience. I was employed by a .com who used a lot of Personally Idetifiable Information to target promotions to consumers. Guess what?? People were afraid of the liberal privacy policy and the company FAILED. If Gmail is so bad and scary then PEOPLE WILL CHOOSE NOT TO USE IT. IT WILL FAIL. That's how things happen naturally.

I don't need State Sen. Liz Figueroa to tell me this...especially because I didn't elect her and I don't even know who she is.

I want my Gmail!!! :p

Another example of what happens when the people making the laws have no idea what the fvck is going on. Once this bitch heard "scan incoming email" she didn't need to listen anymore, just ban it.
