Legends of the Fall

It was all about why Prohibition sucks...and how to kill bears or something...right?

EDIT: This one made Brad Pitt a household name for the girls, while the guys had to wait until "Fight Club"

Actually, when I saw this movie I thought that he was a legit actor, not just a pretty boy for girls to swoon over.

Same here. I'm still a big Brad Pitt fan.

I guess none of you have seen Kalifornia.

I thought Thelma and Louise is what brought him to fame. And then there was A River Runs Through It, another great flick, btw.

I found Legends of the Fall to be a good film but, damn, it got depressing!

glad to know I'm not the only GUY that likes this film!

I've got the DVD and the VHS.

Julia Ormond is smoking too!

Yeah...she looked good. And, hey, Anthony Hopkins was kicking butt in that timeframe, too. He also did Remains of the Day back then.

Legends of the Fall is one of my favorite movies, along with Seven Years in Tibet and a River Runs Through It.

Meet Joe Black, Seven Monkeys and Interview with a Vampire are also good movies that Pitt starred in. They guy has a pretty good track record for making good movies and is one of the better actors on the Scene today. He what they call "Bankable"

This was one of my favorites too that I thought was worth owning. It's a historical romance with a tragic plot that really brought you into the period and atmosphere. All the actors did first rate jobs at bringing depth to their characters.

Personally, I think that if Brad Pitt had been a no-name actor at the time and this had been his first major film - so that girls weren't swooning over him yet - then the film wouldn't have been labled a "chic filck" as much. So in that sense, his popularity with the girls ruined the film's success as much as his acting improved it.

That is one thing I never thought I'd hear uttered from you....

The only Brad Pitt movies I've liked:

Snatch
12 Monkeys
Ocean's 11
Seven

Great movie ... I never thought of it as a chick flick though. It has a strong romantic plot, but with the WWI trench warfare stuff, prohibition bootlegging, bear hunting etc. I never binned it that way.
What always strikes me about that movie is the seeming inevitibility of it. It just seems like once things were set in motion they were doomed to that full tragic path.

Reminded me of a Hemingway book actually. Hemingway isn't known for the literary equivalent of a chick-flick, althoughromantic sub-plots are common.

It must have been "Manual Powered Amish" who liked them then!

I STILL haven't seen Legends of the Fall yet even thought I've rented it on three separate occasions. Something always seems to come up to keep me from watching it.

I also used to assume that Brad Pitt was just a pretty boy, but the guy really can act very well. Pretty much every movie I've seen with him I've liked. A River Runs Through It is one of my all time favorites (it's freaky how much it reminds me of me and my younger brother - although hopefully the ending will continue to be different.) I even liked Pitt in the Mexican, which I wasn't sure I was going to like based on the reviews. But his scenes actually made the film worth watching. Julia Roberts and Gandolfini's typical, quirky, relationship scenes got all the rave reviews, but it was Brad's 'every man' character trapped in bizarre situations scenes that made the film enjoyable.
