while everyone makes fun of how its a gamecube port, the midi soundtrack, and the "easiness" factor, its still a zelda, and its probably the best zelda ever. i think it dethrones ocarina of time. its not perfect, but i dont think any game is (ocarina of time had its flaws - once you beat it, nothing to do - minigames arent that great, etc).

You can determine from graphics alone that it deserves an 8.8? Besides, best looking on the Wii does not mean that it looks good.

8.8 is medicore apparently.
There is a new scoring system for games:
Regular game - 60% is absolute crap, 70% is poor, 80% is alright, 90% is good
Anticipated game: 80% is awful, 85% is poor, 90% is alright, 95% is "as we expected".

What's the point of using a 1-100 scale if everything gets 70 or more, and a review gets lambasted for giving something 88% and people say that's being harsh.
I don't give a damn what game it is, or what system it's for. 88 is NOT a bad score. And in the grand scheme of things, it *should* be a freaking awesome score.

Kinda strange, but is anyone elses local stores selling this yet? I just picked mine up at a local store, and its 8 hours before the 19th.

Although its pretty sweet I got it early (I think), this same store is having a drawing to see who gets wii's and who doesnt. Needless to say, there is no line at this store at all yet.

Smiths Marketplace. I asked how many of Zelda they would have and they said 18-20, then they asked if I wanted to buy one, so of course I did.

you lucky SOB.......my uncle is camping out with my cousin at a circuit city, i thought they would open at 12am for the Wii but they are opening at regular 9am so my 45yr old uncle is camping with my 13yr old cousin. my mom told my uncle to pick up too which im guessing is for me hopefully. he said there were 15 people in line total at a Northridge Circuit City but he said that more people were lining up. i told him not to take any cash with him because of all the PS3 robberies

I bet you $100 that my buddy on Monday could walk into Store and buy a Wii without per-order.

The similarities that he talked about between Ocarina and the Twilight were very apparent, even in the video review, without him saying so. I was actually surprised how similar it looked and sounded. It's a new adventure yes, but this and the Wii-mote problems are there. Besides, 8.8 is still a good game.

I just haven't seen any other review criticize the Wiimote controls. They all say its far more intuitive than playing the GC version.

My only dissapointment is that they stuck with using a MIDI score. Come on Nintendo, it isn't 1993 anymore.

Whats wrong with MIDI? (i'm sure it doesn't actually use MIDI, more likely the systems own sequenced music). Final Fantasy games always use sequenced music, and I don't ever hear anyone complain about the lack of quality in a Final Fantasy soundtrack!

Well, if they used the full range of the scale on a more consistant basis, your argument would make sense. But you can't just walk in and say, oh we've finally redone our scale for Zelda and it gets an 8.8. We promise we won't give the next Halo or bullsh!t hypefest a 10/10, we swear, ok we will. Or like the 9.6 we gave Gears of War.

But instead, I'll read this:

First off, there is nothing wrong with MIDI tracks. *Cheap* MIDI tracks, on the other hand, suck. But with the right samples it can sound like a real orchestra with a much lower budget.

As someone said on IGN - it's all about pedigree. 8.8 is harsh for a game in arguably the best video game franchise in history.

It's harsh considering its spiritual predecessor Ocarina was considered by many to be the greatest game of all time, and rated #1 overall by review sites (check Gamerankings).

But regardless, the 8.8 is not indicative of the total review picture; it's getting a 96.3% on Gamerankings right now, good for 4th place all time [at least since the site's been up, ~10 years?].

So Gamespot once again bucks the trend IMO to get traffic from fans seeing the anomalously score and wondering what it's all about. You do whatever you can to get attention, I guess...

My point is not really in the ranking itself so much as it is the fact that 99.999% of people complaining did not play the game at that time. You can't assume that because a series consisted of nothing but good games means that it'll never contain anything but good games. Hell, just look at the CD-i Zelda games. Sure, Nintendo wasn't closely involved in those and they're unlikely to screw up again, but nothing is infallible.

Besides, the whole thing is a matter of opinion anyways. Personally, I detest the Halo series but that doesn't keep reviewers from worshiping those games. You can't just say that because most people love Zelda that they are harsh and/or trying to stir up controversy because they disagree.

I worked a 12hr shift Sunday and wasted every hour before work trying to find a second Wii for a friend (mine was preordered). Instead, he took mine home and got a day of Zelda in. I went to class in the morning and rushed home to play for the first time. I was heart-broken to find that it no longer functioned. Nintendo is sending me an advance replacement Wii and two DS lites though (decided to replace my two launch units which developed the hairline hinge cracks).

At least I could still try out the Wiimote in the menu. :)

No, those are "to replace my two launch units which developed the hairline hinge cracks." One also has the second variety over the right shoulder button (developed first and before the public was aware of that kind).
