Legalize absinthe in the US?

Somewhat related to the thread regarding legalizing drugs like marijuana, makes no sense why absinthe is illegal in the US. I brought a bottle in, was stopped by customs, made to throw it out. I did some research, the active ingredient that causes hallucinations - thujone has been reduced to like 10 mg/kg or something like that, at which point, you are likely to suffer from alcohol poisoning before you will hallucinate. There are equally strong alcoholic drinks that are sold legally - bacardi 151 is some strong stuff. The absinthe is typically around 60% or 70% alc. by volume.

Absinthe is easily made at home. Why try to bring it in? I have to say it is an aquired taste although not as bizarre as Jaegermeister.

P.S. Prepare to be totally ignored here as your post has no inherent politics or violence. :)

Yes, realized I posted in the wrong forum. But there could be a political aspect to this, like marijuana. No good reason to keep this illegal like marijuana.

It's not that there isn't a political aspect to this, it's that the vast majority of readers and posters in this forum have absolutely no interest in anything (food, tech., sex)that doesn't scream partisan/scandal politics and or violence.

Yes it shouldn't be illegal. No, it does NOT make you see stuff. Abstinthe is so overrated.

When I tried it in Prague, I certainly did NOT see stuff. Granted, I only had 1 drink, but still....

There is some good info here. http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/abs02a.htm
As for having a psychoactive effect, I can testify to experiencing some rather bizarre dreams from drinking my own creations using wormwood in beer. There is also some suggestion that cujone builds up in the fatty tissues of the body thus having a somewhat cumalative effect.
