Morning all,

Can I sell my computer with with my XP operating system? I was going to include the XP CD-Rom with it. It's legal and registered with MS. Is there anyway to change the registered name on the computer (on the computer and with MS)(or computer only)? Thank you.

Frank

i know you can change the registered name on the computer in the registry. This is one reason I don't register software (XP in particular). If it's not mandatory, I generally dont do it.

I believe that if you give the winxp cd with the system and don't try to install on another system you are fine.

I dont know if selling is legal... but I register all my stuff to name "." and company "." (since some programs refuse just a space or nothing at all 😉)

You own the system, you can do whatever you want with it. As long as the copy of Windows that goes along with it doesn't also "stay" with you.

If you wish to dot all the Is and cross all the Ts, I'm sure MS has a way for you to transfer your license to the purchaser. Just call or e-mail their customer service dept.

No need to contact Microsoft. As long as you include the license certificate, it's legal. If your XP is an 'upgrade' version, you also have to include the product you upgraded from.
