Images found via Google Images: are they public domain? Or still belong to the web sites that host the images and must be used with their consent?

Are there any copyright restrictions associated with the images?

The images identified by the Google Image Search service may be protected by copyrights. Although you can locate and access the images through our service, we cannot grant you any rights to use them for any purpose other than viewing them on the web. Accordingly, if you would like to use any images you have found through our service, we advise you to contact the site owner to obtain the requisite permissions.

They are not in the public domain any more than the pictures you find in a magazine. They still belong to the copyright owners (regardless of whether the copyright has been filed). I've gotten several requests over the years to use pictures of mine that people have found via image searches and, so far, I've always happily given people permission when asked.

Careful, those pr0n sites have the cash to pay someone to hunt you down!!

The force of the zawkong is very strong. Not strong enough to overwhelm the plasma dragon obviously but something one should not tangle with either.
