I am selling my car right now and a prespective buyer is interested but bought a car this past Thursday at a dealership in VA. What legal options does the buyer have if they wanted to return the car and get out of their financing?

Straight from the VA Attorney General's website:

Link

In short, there's likely no way to cancel the contract, unless there was fraud, etc., involved.

In VA you have 3 days to cancel a contract. Since your potential buyer signed his contract last Thursday he can't back out of the purchase unless the car dealer agrees.

Yep...it's pretty much like that in every state to my knowledge. The 3 day rule. (given 3 days to cover weekend situations)

ALSO WRONG

2. Do I have 3 days to cancel a purchase?

In general, NO. In Virginia, there is no general 3-day or other right of cancellation on most consumer transactions, e.g., no right of 3-day return in the context of a car purchase. However, Virginia law does provide such rights in certain limited areas and contexts in the following laws. Although this is not an exhaustive list of all Virginia laws that include a right of cancellation, some examples are:

3-day right of cancellation: Virginia Home Solicitation Sales Act

1-day right of cancellation: Payday Loan Act

7-day right of cancellation: Virginia Membership Camping Act

7-day right of cancellation: Virginia Travel Club Act

3-day right of cancellation: Virginia Health Spa Act

Thank you - at least someone bothered to check the link I posted. It's amazing how people will answer questions (usually incorrectly) about which they know nothing.

Yep, MOST states, may have a 3 to 7 day recision clause, they usually don't cover automobile purchases...You buy it, you keep it...
